How Do I Start?

Step 1: Free Consultation

We’ll come to your home for a free one hour consultation.

Before your meeting, you’ll receive a Consent Form, Health Screen, and Intake Questionnaire. Please complete these in advance or fill them out during our visit.

We’ll discuss your health, physical activity history, goals, and motivations. We’ll check your resting heart rate and blood pressure, and, if safe, perform baseline physical tests to assess strength, endurance, and balance. This will help track your progress.

We’ll also provide a brief coaching session with initial exercises to start on your own.

Step 2: Your Custom Program

We’ll work together to determine the best frequency and duration for follow-up sessions, which can be held at your home or in the community.

Some may benefit from five days a week of guided strength, balance, and aerobic exercises, while others might prefer a personalized program to follow independently with periodic check-ins.

We will tailor our approach to meet your needs and goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is in-home exercise programming?

In-home exercise programming involves personalized fitness plans and rehabilitation programs designed specifically for older adults, conducted in the comfort and convenience of their own homes. These programs cater to individual needs, focusing on improving strength, mobility, balance, and overall health.

How do I know if in-home exercise programming is right for me or my loved one?

In-home exercise programming is suitable for anyone looking to improve their fitness and well-being in the comfort of their own home. It’s particularly beneficial for those who prefer personalized attention, have limited mobility, or find it challenging to access traditional fitness or rehabilitation facilities.

Can you work with older adults with specific health conditions or limitations?

Yes, we have experience working with older adults with various health conditions, including arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, hypertension, mobility issues, Parkinson’s, and dementia. Programs are adapted accordingly, taking into account medical history and any physical limitations.

Why choose in-home exercise programming over other options?

In-home programming offers convenience, comfort, and personalized attention. It eliminates the need to travel to a gym or facility, making it ideal for those with mobility challenges or transportation issues. The personalized approach ensures exercises are safe, effective, and tailored to each client’s abilities and goals.

What should I do if I cannot fill out the intake paperwork on my own?

We will bring a copy of the intake paperwork to you during your initial consultation, and we will assist you in filling it out.

How do you ensure safety during in-home exercise sessions for older adults?

Safety is paramount. Programming is provided by a Registered Kinesiologist with over a decade of experience, who is Bone Fit certified by Osteoporosis Canada.  They conduct thorough assessments to understand each client’s health status, limitations, and goals. Exercises are carefully chosen and supervised to minimize the risk of injury and maximize benefits.

What types of exercises are included in the programs?

Programs include a variety of exercises tailored to improve strength, balance, mobility, and cardiovascular health. This may include functional strength training using bodyweight, resistance bands or weights, balance exercises, stretching routines, and cardiovascular activities suited to the individual’s fitness level.

How often are sessions scheduled?

Sessions are typically scheduled based on the client’s preferences and goals. Initially, sessions may occur 1-5 times per week to establish routines and ensure proper form. As clients progress, the frequency and intensity of sessions may be adjusted to continue challenging and benefiting them.

What are the benefits of in-home exercise programming for older adults?

Benefits include improved strength, mobility, balance, and overall fitness, which can enhance daily functioning and quality of life. Regular exercise can also help manage chronic conditions, reduce the risk of falls, promote mental well-being, and foster independence.

Is in-home exercise programming covered by insurance?

Coverage varies depending on your insurance provider and policy. We recommend checking with your insurance provider to determine whether or not they cover services from a Registered Kinesiologist. If your insurance provider does offer coverage, we do not offer direct billing at this time, but we will provide you with an invoice/receipt with all the information you will need to make a claim.
